This position reports to the Custom Products Engineering department and is responsible for the development of custom product solutions based upon MSA’s standard gas detection product portfolio.  Design efforts primarily entail electrical and/or mechanical modifications to expand upon existing standard instrument capabilities.


Description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Combining, repackaging or extending existing capabilities of standard products to meet customer requirements.
  • Incorporating MSA permanent gas detection products into custom systems.
  • Developing quotations, assembly procedures, test procedures and other documentation sufficient to manufacture to the customers’ requirements.
  • Coordinating and prioritizing work load while interfacing extensively with operations, customer service, sales and marketing organizations, and with external customers.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% domestically and international.

  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD
  • Electrical and mechanical design experience
  • Understanding of network protocols and programmable controllers
  • Exposure to gas and liquid handling systems
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code
  • Experience with SAP Engineering and manufacturing document control

Education and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related industry, preferably from an ABET-accredited program
  • This position is available at two different career levels based upon experience, education, etc.:
    • Level one:  no relevant experience
    • Level two:  2 years relevant experience
    • Level three:  3 years relevant experience
    • MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience.
