  • Overview

    This position reports to the Custom Products Engineering department and is responsible for the development of custom product solutions based upon MSA’s standard gas detection product portfolio.  Design efforts primarily entail electrical and/or mechanical modifications to expand upon existing standard instrument capabilities.

    Responsibilities

    Description of duties and responsibilities:

    • Combine, repackage or extend existing capabilities of standard products to meet customer requirements.
    • Incorporate MSA permanent gas detection products into custom systems.
    • Develop assembly procedures, test procedures, quotations and other documentation sufficient to manufacture to the customers’ requirements.
    • Coordinate and prioritize work load while interfacing extensively with operations, customer service, sales and marketing organizations, and with external customers.
    • Ability to travel up to 10% domestic and international.

       

    Qualifications

    Special knowledge, skills and abilities required:

    • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
    • Ability to communicate with both internal and external customers on technical and non-technical matters
    • Creative problem-solving and a customer-based perspective
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Solid interpersonal skills
    • Strong project management skills
    • Experience with MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
       

    Preferred:

    • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD
    • Electrical and mechanical design experience
    • Understanding of network protocols and programmable controllers
    • Exposure to gas and liquid handling systems
    • Knowledge of the National Electric Code
       

    Education and experience required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related industry, preferably from an ABET-accredited program
    • This position is available at three different career levels based upon experience, education, etc.:
      • Level one:  no relevant experience
      • Level two:  2 years relevant experience
      • Level three:  3 years relevant experience
      • MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience.

    Preferred:

    • BSEE, BSME, or BSCE
