  • Overview

    This position is primarily responsible for reading and understanding documents to assemble, modify, test, apply calibration gas, pack and repair moderately complex instruments, where considerable on-the-job training and/or an appropriate associate’s degree is required.  This position is also responsible for troubleshooting components and customizing products according to customer specifications.   Adherence to safety, housekeeping and quality standards as related to production and company objectives is required.  In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining production goals through productivity targets and cost containment by eliminating waste. Positions available on 2nd and 3rd shift.




    • Assemble, apply calibration gas, and test, (including set-up) of moderately complex instruments and/or sub-assemblies requiring wiring and soldering
    • May be required to improvise methods and equipment setups using basic electronics knowledge 
    • Test build and calibrate configured Chillgard, Controller, Optical Bench and Ultima  products 
    • May be required to pick parts from the warehouse
    • Perform visual inspection and minor repairs
    • Prepare finished products for shipment
    • Interact with Sales, Marketing and Production Planning on unique order entry issues
    • Maintain relevant information in computer systems
    • Complete and maintain associated paperwork


    Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:


    • Demonstrated proficiency in soldering
    • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude including ability to build components for moderately complex instruments
    • Ability to read and understand drawings, work instructions and test procedures
    • Ability to operate electronic test equipment
    • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
    • Proven ability to read wiring diagrams / schematics
    • Ability to understand standard units of measure and to set-up and interpret results of various measuring devices 
    • Ability to perform standard software operations including SAP
    • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 40 pounds without assistance
    • Ability to occasionally stand in a stationary position
    • Ability to use power and hand tools, custom tooling and to regularly perform work that requires magnification
    • Strong manual dexterity for use of tools and performing work on small components requiring fine finger manipulation  and hand steadiness
    • Ability to effectively communicate with various levels within the organization including training of new associates and temporary agency assignments
    • Ability to prioritize and organize work, work independently and multi-task with minimal supervision
    • Operate at a level that meets or exceeds quality and productivity standards for the work area.
    • Ability to work in a team environment and assist in all areas of production as needed
    • Willingness to work on various product groups and work flexible shifts
    • Ability to wear ANSI Z87 approved safety glasses, steel-toed shoes and other PPE as required per Job Safety Analysis
    • Individuals with pace makers may be prohibited from working in specific areas due to the operation of UV ovens

    Education and Experience Requirements:


    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Associates Degree in electronics or electronic technology
    • 3 years previous work experience with instrumentation may be substituted for degree
    • Minimum 12 months electronics manufacturing or other related experience
    • Past soldering experience

    Experience Preferred:

    • Experience with permanent instrument technologies
