Located at the MSA facility in Cranberry Twp., PA, this position is responsible for independently prototyping, modeling, and assembling complex custom built instruments including deciding best way to assemble instruments, and proposing design changes to the Engineer to improve product performance.  In this role, the incumbent will also be responsible for cost containment by eliminating waste.  As the worldwide leader in worker protection and safety product innovation, our assemblers promote the behaviors and housekeeping necessary for a safe work environment. 


  • Determines the best method and materials to assemble complex custom built instruments and sub-assemblies that regularly require a variety of metal forming/tube bending, fabrication, and mechanical processes.
  • Picks materials from the warehouse that are necessary to assemble the instrument. Is also responsible for maintaining adequate stock levels of supplies within the department.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Proven ability to read and understand drawings.
  • Proven ability to read wiring schematics.
  • Proven ability to understand flow systems.
  • Proven ability to understand electro-mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated mechanical skills.
  • Proven ability to understand standard units of measure.
  • Proven ability to perform standard software operations including SAP.
  • Proven ability to sometimes lift, carry, push and pull up to 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Proven ability to use metal forming, power and hand tools, such as; pipe threader, powder coater, and brazing/silver soldering.
  • Proven ability to use custom tooling.
  • Proven ability to regularly perform fine finger and hand activity / steady hand required.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with various levels within the organization including training of new associates and temporaries.
  • Proven ability to work with Engineering on design layouts.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and organize work.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including filter mask and welder hood.


 Education and Experience Required:

  • Associates Degree in electronics or electronic technology required.
  • 18 months electronics manufacturing or other related experience required.
  • 12 months experience building multiple permanent instruments.
  • Three years past working experience in the permanent instrument area building a variety of instruments may be substituted in lieu of the associates’ degree.
  • Three years past working experience in a fabrication shop assembling mechanical and electrical designs may be substituted in lieu of the associates’ degree.
